Gleason score and ISUP grade groups

Nephrology and urology

Also known as: Gleason-Score und ISUP-Graduierungsgruppen · Gleason skoru ve ISUP derece grupları · Gleason score and ISUP grade groups (prostate cancer)

What it is for

Histological grading of prostatic adenocarcinoma. Gleason patterns run from 1 (well formed glands) to 5 (no gland formation); in practice patterns 3–5 are assigned. The Gleason score adds the most common (primary) and the second most common or highest (secondary) pattern, e.g. 3+4=7. ISUP 2014 compresses the scores into five grade groups.

ISUP 2019 updateadds reporting of the percentage of pattern 4, of invasive cribriform growth and of intraductal carcinoma (ISUP grades intraductal carcinoma together with the invasive tumour; the Genitourinary Pathology Society 2019 grades the invasive component only). The five grade groups are unchanged.
