Neurology
Also known as: ASIA-Impairment-Scale (AIS) · ASIA-Klassifikation · ASIA Bozukluk Skalası (AIS) · ASIA Impairment Scale (AIS, spinal cord injury)
What it is for
ASIA Impairment Scale (AIS): grades the completeness of a spinal cord injury from the International Standards for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI) examination, A (complete) to E (normal).
Classification
| Category | Description |
|---|---|
| A - complete | no sensory or motor function preserved in the lowest sacral segments S4-S5 (light touch, pinprick, deep anal pressure, voluntary anal contraction). |
| B - sensory incomplete | sensory but no motor function preserved below the neurological level, including S4-S5, and no motor function more than three levels below the motor level on either side. |
| C - motor incomplete | motor function preserved below the neurological level (voluntary anal contraction, or sensory sparing with motor function more than three levels below the motor level), and fewer than half of key muscles below the neurological level have grade 3 or more. |
| D - motor incomplete | as C, but at least half of key muscles below the neurological level have grade 3 or more. |
| E - normal | normal sensory and motor function in a patient who had a documented spinal cord injury; not used without a prior injury. |
