Cardiology

Also known as: DeBakey classification · Stanford- und DeBakey-Klassifikation der Aortendissektion · Aort diseksiyonu Stanford ve DeBakey sınıflaması · Stanford and DeBakey classification of aortic dissection

What it is for

Anatomical classifications of aortic dissection. Stanford is based on whether the ascending aorta is involved; DeBakey on where the dissection starts and how far it extends.

Classification

CategoryDescription
Stanford type Ainvolves the ascending aorta, wherever the entry tear lies (including retrograde extension from the arch or descending aorta); corresponds to DeBakey I and II.
Stanford type Bdoes not involve the ascending aorta; corresponds to DeBakey III.
DeBakey type Istarts in the ascending aorta and extends to the arch and descending aorta.
DeBakey type IIstarts in and is confined to the ascending aorta.
DeBakey type IIIstarts in the descending aorta distal to the left subclavian artery: IIIa limited to the thoracic aorta, IIIb extending below the diaphragm.
Notenewer systems (e.g. TEM classification, 2020 SVS/STS classification) add arch involvement, entry site and malperfusion.
