Classification

|---|---|
| Optimal | SBP <120 and DBP <80 mmHg |
| Normal | SBP 120-129 and/or DBP 80-84 mmHg |
| High-normal | SBP 130-139 and/or DBP 85-89 mmHg |
| Grade 1 hypertension | SBP 140-159 and/or DBP 90-99 mmHg |
| Grade 2 hypertension | SBP 160-179 and/or DBP 100-109 mmHg |
| Grade 3 hypertension | SBP 180 or more and/or DBP 110 or more mmHg |
| Isolated systolic / diastolic hypertension | SBP ≥140 with DBP <90 mmHg / SBP <140 with DBP ≥90 mmHg; graded 1-3 by the raised value. |
| Stages | stage 1: uncomplicated (no hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD), no established cardiovascular disease (CVD), no chronic kidney disease (CKD) G3 or higher); stage 2: HMOD, CKD G3 or diabetes; stage 3: established CVD or CKD G4-G5. |
