Sanders classification
Trauma and orthopaedics
Also known as: Sanders-Klassifikation (Kalkaneusfraktur) · Sanders sınıflaması (kalkaneus kırığı) · Sanders classification (intra-articular calcaneal fractures)
What it is for
CT classification of intra-articular calcaneal fractures by the number and position of fracture lines through the posterior facet, read on the semicoronal slice showing the widest undersurface of the posterior talar facet.
Classification
| Category | Description |
|---|---|
| Lines | lines A and B divide the posterior facet into three columns from lateral to medial; line C lies at the medial edge of the facet next to the sustentaculum tali. |
| Type I | nondisplaced articular fracture, whatever the number of fracture lines. |
| Type II | two-part fracture of the posterior facet (one primary line): IIA, IIB or IIC by the position of the line. |
| Type III | three-part fracture (two primary lines), often with a depressed central fragment: IIIAB, IIIAC or IIIBC. |
| Type IV | four or more articular fragments, highly comminuted. |
