Danis-Weber classification
Trauma and orthopaedics
Also known as: Weber classification of ankle fractures · Weber-Klassifikation (Sprunggelenksfraktur) · Danis-Weber-Klassifikation · Danis-Weber sınıflaması (ayak bileği kırığı) · Danis-Weber classification (ankle fractures)
What it is for
Classifies ankle (malleolar) fractures by the level of the distal fibular fracture relative to the tibiofibular syndesmosis on radiographs.
Classification
| Category | Description |
|---|---|
| Weber A | fibular fracture below the syndesmosis (infrasyndesmotic), usually transverse; syndesmosis intact. |
| Weber B | fracture at the level of the syndesmosis (transsyndesmotic), usually oblique or spiral; syndesmosis may be intact or partly injured. |
| Weber C | fracture above the syndesmosis (suprasyndesmotic), up to the fibular neck; syndesmosis disrupted. |
| Relation to other systems | AO/OTA 44A/44B/44C use the same levels. Rough Lauge-Hansen match: A ≈ supination-adduction, B ≈ supination-external rotation, C ≈ pronation-external rotation or pronation-abduction. |
