Key facts
Delgocitinib (Anzupgo) is a Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor cream for use on the skin. It is used for moderate to severe chronic hand eczema.
What it is used for
- Moderate to severe chronic hand eczema in adults and adolescents 12 years and older for whom topical corticosteroids are inadequate or inappropriate.
Dosing
- Adults and adolescents 12 years and older: apply a thin layer twice daily (approximately 12 hours apart) to affected skin of the hands and wrists until the skin is clear or almost clear.
- Restart twice-daily treatment as needed if flares recur.
- Discontinue if no improvement is seen after 12 weeks of continuous treatment.
- No dose adjustment in elderly patients or in hepatic or renal impairment; not studied in children below 12 years.
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and mucous membranes; avoid other topical products immediately before and after application.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients.
Important warnings
- Non-melanoma skin cancer (predominantly basal cell carcinoma) has been reported with topical JAK inhibitors; periodic skin examination of the application site is recommended.
- Contains 10 mg benzyl alcohol per gram of cream, which may cause allergic reactions or mild local irritation.
- Butylhydroxyanisole and cetostearyl alcohol may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).
- Anyone applying the cream to a patient should wash their hands afterwards.
Side effects
- Common: application site reactions (1.0%), such as pain, paraesthesia, pruritus and erythema; mostly mild and mainly within the first week of treatment.
Interactions
- No clinical interaction studies; low potential for interaction with systemic treatments given minimal systemic exposure.
- Co-application with other topical medicines on the same skin area is not recommended.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- As a precaution, it is preferable to avoid use during pregnancy.
- Can be used during breast-feeding; avoid direct contact with the nipple area after application.
