Savary-Miller classification
Gastroenterology and hepatology
Also known as: Savary-Miller-Klassifikation · Savary-Miller sınıflaması · Savary-Miller classification of reflux oesophagitis
What it is for
Older endoscopic grading of reflux oesophagitis by the extent of erosions, with the highest grades for chronic complications. It has been largely replaced by the Los Angeles classification in reports and trials.
Classification
| Category | Description |
|---|---|
| Grade I | single or isolated erosion(s) on one longitudinal fold |
| Grade II | multiple erosions on more than one longitudinal fold, not circumferential, with or without confluence |
| Grade III | circumferential erosions |
| Grade IV | chronic lesions: ulcer(s), stricture(s) and/or short oesophagus, alone or with grade I–III lesions |
| Grade V | Barrett's oesophagus (columnar epithelium) |
| Note | the published versions differ (for example in how complications and Barrett's are grouped), so the version used should be named; use and interpretation vary between centres. |
