qSOFA score
Intensive care and infectious diseases
Also known as: quick SOFA · qSOFA-Score · qSOFA skoru · quick SOFA (qSOFA)
What it is for
The quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) from the Sepsis-3 consensus is a bedside prompt for adults with suspected infection, mainly outside the intensive care unit. One point for each criterion (0-3).
Classification
| Category | Description |
|---|---|
| Respiratory rate | ≥22/min: 1 point |
| Mentation | altered mental status (Glasgow Coma Scale <15): 1 point |
| Systolic blood pressure | ≤100 mmHg: 1 point |
| Interpretation | ≥2 points (positive qSOFA) flags a patient with suspected infection as likely to have a poor outcome and prompts a look for organ dysfunction. qSOFA itself is not the definition of sepsis; Sepsis-3 defines sepsis with the SOFA score. |
