Gestational diabetes diagnostic criteria (IADPSG)
Endocrinology
Also known as: Diagnosekriterien Gestationsdiabetes (75-g-oGTT) · Gestasyonel diyabet tanı kriterleri (IADPSG) · Diagnostic criteria for gestational diabetes (IADPSG / WHO 2013 one-step 75 g OGTT)
What it is for
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM): diabetes first diagnosed in the second or third trimester that was not clearly overt before pregnancy. One-step method: 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at 24–28 weeks after an overnight fast of at least 8 hours, venous plasma glucose; one value at or above a threshold is enough.
Classification
| Category | Description |
|---|---|
| Fasting | ≥92 mg/dl (≥5.1 mmol/l). |
| 1 hour | ≥180 mg/dl (≥10.0 mmol/l). |
| 2 hours | ≥153 mg/dl (≥8.5 mmol/l). |
| Overt (pre-existing) diabetes in pregnancy | found early in pregnancy with the non-pregnant criteria (e.g. fasting ≥126 mg/dl, random ≥200 mg/dl, HbA1c ≥6.5%); classed as diabetes complicating pregnancy, not GDM. |
| Other method | the ADA also accepts a two-step approach (50 g non-fasting screen, then a 100 g OGTT). |
