In short
UpToDate by Wolters Kluwer is an expert-written clinical decision-support reference, now complemented by a generative AI feature. Medelix answers clinical questions with AI from guidelines and literature retrieved at the moment you ask, with a source for every statement.
UpToDate at a glance
- Expert-written content. According to Wolters Kluwer, UpToDate content is written and peer-reviewed by experts; the company cites a network of 7,600 medical experts [1].
- UpToDate Expert AI. On 24 September 2025 Wolters Kluwer announced "UpToDate Expert AI", a generative-AI clinical decision-support solution built on UpToDate content [1]. Institutions such as Vanderbilt University Medical Center enabled it for their users in early 2026, where it provides summary answers based on UpToDate content [2].
- CME. UpToDate use can earn continuing education credit (in the US, AMA PRA Category 1 by default); searches and reading time are tracked for this [3].
- Access. UpToDate is a paid product and is often licensed through hospitals and university libraries [2][3].
- Language. According to the University of Münster library, UpToDate gained a German search interface in 2013, while topic content was available in English only at the time [4]. We could not retrieve the provider's current information on language editions.
Strengths: expert-written, peer-reviewed topic reviews; an AI feature built on that reviewed content; CME credit.
Medelix at a glance

- Sources: guidelines (including European and German-language ones), official medicines registers and peer-reviewed literature, retrieved live [5].
- Language: questions and answers in English, German, Turkish and other languages.
- Data processing in the EU: Medelix runs on its own servers in Helsinki, Finland [5].

What Medelix does not offer: no expert-written topic reviews and no CME credit. Medelix answers are AI-generated and not reviewed by an editor beforehand — the linked source is authoritative.
