Hurley staging
Dermatology
Also known as: Hurley-Stadien (Hidradenitis suppurativa / Acne inversa) · Hurley evrelemesi · Hurley staging of hidradenitis suppurativa
What it is for
Hurley staging grades the anatomical severity of hidradenitis suppurativa (acne inversa) in a region by the presence of tunnels (sinus tracts), scarring and how widespread the disease is.
Classification
| Category | Description |
|---|---|
| Stage I | one or more abscesses without sinus tracts (tunnels) and without scarring. |
| Stage II | recurrent abscesses with tunnel formation and scarring; single or several lesions widely separated from each other. |
| Stage III | diffuse or almost diffuse involvement, or multiple interconnected tunnels and abscesses across the whole area. |
| Note | a static stage; dynamic severity scores such as the International Hidradenitis Suppurativa Severity Score System (IHS4) are used to follow activity. |
