HAS-BLED

Major bleeding risk on anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation

0
0–2 — lower risk

Bleeding risk does not by itself argue against anticoagulation.

Designed to flag modifiable bleeding risk, not to deny anticoagulation. Most factors it counts are also stroke-risk factors.

Interpretation

  • 0–2 — lower risk — Bleeding risk does not by itself argue against anticoagulation.
  • ≥ 3 — high risk — Address modifiable factors and review more often. A high score is NOT a reason to withhold anticoagulation.

Designed to flag modifiable bleeding risk, not to deny anticoagulation. Most factors it counts are also stroke-risk factors.
