How our exam questions are made

How Medelix writes practice questions: from a cited source passage, independently re-answered, and reviewed before publication.

Written from a cited source passage

Every question is written from a specific passage in a guideline, an open-access textbook chapter (e.g. NCBI Bookshelf) or an open-access review. It only tests what that passage supports.

The decisive passage is quoted verbatim below each question and the source is linked, so every answer can be checked independently.

Independently re-answered

Before review, a second, independent checking step answers the question without seeing the intended answer. If it disagrees, or if more than one option is defensible, the question is rewritten or discarded.

Reviewed before publication

A question is published only after it passes an additional, independent quality check: it is solved again blind and its quote is checked against the source. The check is AI-assisted. Questions with any inconsistency are revised or discarded; unapproved drafts are not publicly reachable.

We do not use official or past exam questions, nor paraphrases of commercial question banks. Exam tags (e.g. USMLE Step 2 CK) indicate which exam the topic is relevant for — not that the question appeared there.

Found an error?

Medical knowledge changes, and reviewed questions can still contain errors. Please send corrections to contact@medelix.ai with a link to the question. We check every report and update the question and its date.
